Job Description

Newmont Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team in Chattanooga, TN. This is an exceptional opportunity for an international candidate as LMIA and Visa Sponsorship will be provided for the successful applicant. The Mining Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing mine operations, designing mine plans, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of our projects. You will be responsible for applying engineering principles to solve complex challenges, improve productivity, and contribute to the long-term success of our global operations. This role requires a strong technical background, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans, including pit design, haul road design, and production scheduling.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, economic analyses, and risk assessments for new and existing mining projects.
  • Utilize mining software packages for geological modeling, mine design, and optimization (e.g., Surpac, Vulcan, AutoCAD).
  • Monitor and analyze mine performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with geology, operations, maintenance, and processing teams to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site operational teams.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and embrace new technologies to enhance mining efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in mine planning, design, or operations within the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight).
  • Strong understanding of geological principles, geomechanics, and mine ventilation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Experience with open-pit and/or underground mining operations.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
  • Experience with financial modeling and economic evaluation of mining projects.
