Job Description
Join Indiana University Bloomington as a Junior Legislative Assistant with a Political Science Focus. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to contribute to legislative research, policy analysis, and strategic communication. Working closely with senior staff, you will support initiatives related to public policy, government relations, and community engagement, leveraging your academic background in political science to inform and advance our mission. This position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic academic and policy-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on legislative proposals, public policy issues, and political trends.
- Draft memos, reports, and summaries of research findings for internal stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative developments at the state and federal levels relevant to the university's interests.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations and briefing materials for university leadership.
- Support communication efforts with elected officials, government agencies, and community partners.
- Organize and maintain legislative tracking systems and databases.
- Contribute to policy analysis and development under the guidance of senior staff.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated interest in legislative processes and public policy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship experience in a legislative office, government agency, or public policy organization.
- Familiarity with legislative tracking software or databases.
- Experience with data analysis or statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS) is a plus.
- Understanding of Indiana state government and legislative landscape.
