Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as an Entry-Level Hospital Porter. This vital, non-clinical role is perfect for those looking for stable work and an opportunity to start a career in the healthcare sector, even without prior experience. As a Hospital Porter, you will be instrumental in the smooth operation of our busy hospital, ensuring the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, medical records, and other essential items across various departments. Your contribution directly supports patient care by making sure resources are exactly where they need to be, when they’re needed. This position requires physical fitness, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to providing excellent service to patients, visitors, and staff. Comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs between wards, departments, and clinic areas throughout the hospital.
- Move and deliver a wide range of items including medical equipment, patient notes, specimens, mail, and linen.
- Assist with the delivery and collection of goods and supplies to ensure smooth departmental operations.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, reporting any hazards, spills, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Provide a courteous, compassionate, and helpful service to patients, visitors, and all members of staff.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to requests from medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, infection control protocols, and hospital policies.
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment as required, ensuring it is clean and in good working order.
Required Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Good level of physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong, proactive work ethic.
- A compassionate, empathetic, and caring attitude towards patients and their families.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued member of a larger team.
- Basic understanding of hygiene standards and safety procedures.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced hospital environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service-oriented role.
- Basic IT literacy for using hospital communication systems.
- Knowledge of basic first aid or emergency response procedures.
- Experience working in a public-facing role.
