Job Description
Join Peoples Gas as a Gas Plant Operator Trainee and embark on a rewarding career in the energy sector. This entry-level position offers comprehensive paid training to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain our gas distribution systems safely and efficiently. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, learning everything from monitoring gas flow and pressure to performing routine inspections and emergency response procedures. We are seeking highly motivated individuals eager to learn, committed to safety, and ready to contribute to a critical utility service. No prior experience is required; we provide all the training you need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in a structured training program to learn gas plant operations.
- Monitor gas plant equipment and systems, including compressors, pipelines, and control panels.
- Learn to identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions, alarms, and emergencies.
- Assist in performing routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment.
- Develop understanding of regulatory compliance and safety procedures specific to natural gas operations.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with senior operators and engineers to troubleshoot issues and optimize plant performance.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and respond to call-outs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions.
- Commitment to safety and ability to work in a high-risk environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or vocational training in a related technical field (e.g., industrial maintenance, electrical, instrumentation).
- Previous experience in a hands-on, physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with industrial safety protocols.
