Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Haul Specialist to join our FedEx Freight team in North Las Vegas. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of oversize and overweight loads, requiring expert knowledge of heavy haul logistics, regulations, and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety, exceptional driving skills, and the ability to navigate complex routes while adhering to all federal and state regulations. This is a challenging yet rewarding position for a professional who thrives on responsibility and precision in the heavy haul industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy haul equipment for the transportation of oversize and overweight freight.
- Plan and execute routes, considering permit requirements, road restrictions, and safety protocols for oversize loads.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.
- Secure loads properly using appropriate tie-downs, chains, and other securing devices.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and pilot/escort vehicle drivers.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, and other required documentation.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, safety standards, and federal/state transportation regulations.
- Represent FedEx Freight professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience operating heavy haul and oversize load equipment
- Clean driving record
- Extensive knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to heavy haul and oversize loads
- Ability to read and interpret road maps, logbooks, and shipping documents
- Proficiency in securing diverse types of oversize freight
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in varying road conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazmat endorsement
- Tanker endorsement
- Experience with specific heavy haul permitting software
- Proven track record of safe driving and operational excellence
- Proficiency in basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting
