Job Description
Are you meticulous, safety-conscious, and comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces? Otis Elevator Company is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as an Elevator Shaft Cleanup Laborer. This critical role involves ensuring the cleanliness and safety of elevator shafts, machine rooms, and pits, which is vital for the optimal performance and longevity of our elevator systems. You will be responsible for removing debris, cleaning components, and assisting with various maintenance tasks in challenging environments. This position requires strict adherence to safety protocols and a strong work ethic. Full training will be provided to ensure all tasks are performed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of elevator shafts, pits, machine rooms, and associated equipment.
- Safely remove debris, dust, grease, and other contaminants from all areas of the elevator system.
- Operate specialized cleaning tools and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Work comfortably and safely at various heights, often using ladders, scaffolding, or other access equipment.
- Navigate and work effectively within confined spaces, such as elevator pits and overhead areas.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans.
- Inspect areas for potential hazards and report any issues to the supervisor immediately.
- Assist elevator technicians with minor tasks as directed during cleaning operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure proper disposal of waste.
Required Skills
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, climb, and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to cleaning.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various job sites within the Mesa/Phoenix area.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic understanding of tools and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, industrial cleaning, or maintenance.
- Certification in Confined Space Entry and/or Fall Protection.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals or safety instructions.
