Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Digital Archivist (Scribe) with a strong focus on historical data to join our team in Colorado Springs. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the preservation, organization, and accessibility of our extensive historical digital assets. This includes a wide array of documentation, imagery, and data critical to our long-standing projects and research. Your expertise will ensure that our valuable historical information is accurately cataloged, maintained, and readily available for future reference and analysis, playing a key part in safeguarding our institutional memory and supporting ongoing innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, acquire, and ingest historical digital data from various legacy systems and formats.
  • Perform detailed metadata creation, normalization, and quality control for all archival materials.
  • Implement and manage digital preservation strategies to ensure the long-term integrity and accessibility of data.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive cataloging systems and finding aids for historical digital archives.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to internal stakeholders on accessing and utilizing historical data.
  • Ensure compliance with archival standards, industry best practices, and internal data governance policies.
  • Collaborate with IT and records management teams to optimize archival storage solutions and retrieval processes.
  • Conduct regular audits and integrity checks of the digital archive to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of archival policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in digital archiving, data management, or library science.
  • Strong understanding of metadata standards (e.g., EAD, MODS, Dublin Core) and best practices for digital preservation.
  • Proficiency with archival content management systems and digital asset management (DAM) platforms.
  • Experience with data migration and handling of diverse digital formats.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with large-scale data digitization projects.
  • Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or highly technical historical documentation.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data processing and automation.
  • Project management experience in an archival or information management context.
