Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Clinical Chemist to join our diagnostic medical laboratory in Wesley Chapel, FL. This role offers a shift differential for evening and weekend shifts. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of complex chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and analyses. You will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic results, contributing directly to patient care. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory principles, quality control, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex clinical chemistry assays, including routine and specialized tests, accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of automated and manual laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Evaluate and interpret test results, correlating them with patient history and other clinical findings.
  • Implement and adhere to strict quality control procedures, ensuring precision and accuracy of all tests.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems in the laboratory, escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Participate in method validation, development, and implementation of new tests and technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accrediting body requirements (e.g., CAP, CLIA).
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Collaborate with other laboratory staff, pathologists, and clinicians to provide optimal patient care.
  • Contribute to the training and mentorship of junior laboratory personnel.

Required Skills

  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with a specialization in Chemistry, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-volume clinical chemistry laboratory.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining automated clinical chemistry analyzers.
  • Strong understanding of quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information System) specific to Quest Diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles in a laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience with method validation and new test implementation.
