Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures, with a strong emphasis on the technical aspects of the lab, including hemodynamic monitoring, equipment management, and procedural assistance. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess exceptional critical thinking skills, and be committed to patient safety and positive outcomes. This position includes on-call responsibilities, requiring readiness to respond to emergent cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures, including coronary interventions, peripheral interventions, and electrophysiology studies.
  • Monitor patient hemodynamics, EKG, and vital signs during procedures, identifying and responding to changes promptly.
  • Operate and troubleshoot cath lab equipment, including imaging systems, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and other specialized devices.
  • Administer medications safely and effectively under physician direction, ensuring proper dosages and documentation.
  • Prepare and educate patients pre-procedure, ensuring understanding of the process and addressing any concerns.
  • Provide post-procedure care, including monitoring for complications, sheath removal, and patient recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including procedural documentation, medication administration, and nursing assessments.
  • Participate in daily quality control and maintenance of cath lab equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, responding promptly to emergent cardiac cases.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care, emergency medicine, or telemetry.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated strong technical aptitude and ability to operate complex medical equipment.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in high-stress situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and patient interaction.
  • Proficiency in administering and titrating vasoactive medications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology.
  • Certification in Cardiac Vascular Nursing (CVRN-BC) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
  • Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic).
