Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Board Certified Music Therapist to join our interdisciplinary team in a hospital-based setting in Uptown Charlotte. This full-time position offers comprehensive benefits and the opportunity to utilize the power of music to support patient healing, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being across various clinical populations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing patient needs, developing individualized music therapy treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions within a dynamic hospital environment. This role requires excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to integrate music therapy into holistic patient treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive music therapy assessments to identify patient needs, strengths, and goals across diverse medical populations (e.g., pediatrics, oncology, palliative care, rehabilitation).
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized and group music therapy treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and patient-centered goals.
  • Facilitate therapeutic music experiences, including but not limited to, songwriting, improvisation, receptive music listening, rhythmic entrainment, and instrument play.
  • Document patient progress, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic health record system.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to integrate music therapy into the patient's overall care plan.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff about the benefits and applications of music therapy.
  • Maintain professional licensure and Board Certification (MT-BC) through ongoing continuing education and adherence to ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved program.
  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency in applying music therapy techniques to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs.
  • Proficiency in playing guitar, piano, and singing, with the ability to adapt to various musical styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the benefits of music therapy to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of post-certification clinical experience in an acute care, pediatric, oncology, or palliative care hospital setting.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic).
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English).
  • Advanced training or specialization in specific music therapy techniques or populations (e.g., NICU, trauma-informed care).
