Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biotech Laboratory Specialist with a strong focus on genetic research to join our cutting-edge R&D team in Land O’ Lakes, FL. This role is pivotal in advancing our understanding of genetic mechanisms and developing innovative sequencing solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing complex molecular biology experiments, managing laboratory operations, and contributing to the analysis and interpretation of genomic data. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, library preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS), and gene editing experiments.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory equipment such as sequencers (e.g., NovaSeq, MiSeq), liquid handlers, and analytical instruments.
- Design and execute experiments independently and collaboratively, ensuring rigorous scientific methodology and data integrity.
- Analyze and interpret genomic data, collaborating with bioinformaticians and research scientists.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including experimental protocols, results, and observations.
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Contribute to the optimization of existing protocols and the development of new experimental methodologies.
- Manage laboratory inventory, order reagents, and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Train and mentor junior laboratory personnel as needed.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology or genetics.
- Proficiency in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation.
- Demonstrated experience with genomic analysis techniques and tools.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology principles and genetic research methodologies.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 or other gene editing technologies.
- Proficiency in basic bioinformatics tools and data visualization software (e.g., R, Python).
- Prior experience working in an industrial biotechnology or pharmaceutical R&D setting.
- Publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
