Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Loading Dock Operative to join our Santa Maria distribution team. This role is crucial for the efficient flow of goods within our busy logistics operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, organizing inventory on the dock, and ensuring all safety protocols are meticulously followed. This position requires significant heavy lifting and offers weekly pay for consistent work.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload delivery trucks efficiently and safely, often involving heavy items.
- Operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment as needed.
- Verify incoming and outgoing shipments against manifests or invoices for accuracy.
- Organize and stack merchandise in designated areas on the loading dock or in the warehouse.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment on the loading dock.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including proper lifting techniques.
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers, warehouse staff, and supervisors.
- Assist with inventory counts and stock rotation as required.
- Report any damaged goods, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards immediately.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily operational goals.
Required Skills
- Ability to repeatedly lift, push, and pull heavy items (up to 50 lbs) throughout a shift.
- Strong understanding and commitment to safety protocols.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for verifying shipments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, loading dock, or logistics environment.
- Certification or experience operating forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
