Job Description
As a FedEx Freight Dockworker on the afternoon shift, you will play a crucial role in the efficient movement of freight within our service center. This position involves manual loading and unloading of freight, operating forklifts and other dock equipment, and ensuring the timely and accurate sorting of shipments. We are looking for dedicated individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are committed to safety and teamwork. This position offers consistent afternoon hours, allowing for a predictable schedule with your evenings and weekends free.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually load and unload freight, ensuring secure handling and proper placement.
- Operate powered industrial trucks (forklifts, hostlers, etc.) to move, load, and unload freight.
- Sort and stage freight according to destination and shipping requirements.
- Inspect freight for damage and verify counts, reporting discrepancies as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies, maintaining a safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively with team members to maximize efficiency and meet operational goals.
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy freight (up to 75 lbs individually, more with assistance).
- Physical stamina and ability to work in a demanding environment.
- Basic literacy and numerical skills to read labels and count freight.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and physical exam.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a warehouse, dock, or logistics environment.
- Experience operating forklifts or other powered industrial equipment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Familiarity with freight handling and sorting procedures.
