Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Media Interview Typist with a strong journalism focus to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately transcribing audio and video recordings of interviews, press conferences, and other journalistic content. Your work will directly support our editorial teams, ensuring that journalists have precise written records for their reporting. This is a crucial position requiring excellent listening skills, fast and accurate typing, and a keen understanding of journalistic ethics and deadlines. This position is 100% remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio and video recordings of interviews, press conferences, and other journalistic materials with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
- Ensure proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting in all transcriptions.
- Identify and tag speakers, timestamp key moments, and note unintelligible sections clearly.
- Adhere strictly to AP style guidelines and internal transcription protocols.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive information and unreleased content.
- Meet tight deadlines consistently while maintaining quality standards.
- Utilize transcription software and tools effectively to optimize workflow.
- Collaborate with editorial staff to clarify content or resolve discrepancies as needed.
Required Skills
- Minimum typing speed of 70 WPM with 98% accuracy.
- Exceptional listening skills and the ability to discern speech in various audio qualities.
- Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors.
- Experience with transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe, Trint, Otter.ai or similar).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- High level of professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in media, journalism, or legal transcription.
- Familiarity with journalistic terminology and ethical considerations.
- Knowledge of AP style guide.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
