Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Music Metadata Specialist with a strong focus on digital archives to join our remote team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the precise management, organization, and enhancement of our extensive music metadata, ensuring the integrity and discoverability of our digital assets. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of music cataloging principles, and proficiency with metadata standards and digital asset management systems. You will play a crucial part in maintaining our legacy and current catalog for future generations, directly impacting how our music is discovered, licensed, and consumed globally. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately create, edit, and maintain comprehensive metadata for a vast catalog of music assets, including audio recordings, compositions, and related media.
- Ensure adherence to established metadata standards (e.g., DDEX, ID3, MARC) and internal guidelines for consistency and quality.
- Perform quality control checks on existing metadata to identify and correct errors, ensuring data integrity across all platforms.
- Collaborate with various teams, including A&R, Legal, Licensing, and Digital Operations, to acquire necessary metadata and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop and implement best practices for digital asset archiving and long-term preservation strategies.
- Assist in the migration of metadata between different systems and platforms.
- Research and verify information about artists, albums, tracks, and compositions to enrich metadata profiles.
- Provide support for internal and external metadata-related inquiries.
- Stay informed about industry trends in music metadata, digital archiving, and data management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in metadata management, data entry, or digital content management, preferably within the music or entertainment industry.
- Strong understanding of music metadata standards (e.g., DDEX, ID3 tags) and music industry terminology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems and content management tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Music Business, or a related field.
- Experience with SQL or other database querying languages.
- Familiarity with music publishing rights and licensing.
- Knowledge of various audio and video file formats.
- Experience in a large-scale digital archiving project.
