Job Description
Salve Regina University invites applications for a tenure-track position as a University Music Professor, with a strong emphasis on research support. We seek a visionary educator and accomplished scholar-artist to join our esteemed Department of Music. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic curriculum, mentor students in both performance and academic pursuits, and maintain an active research and creative agenda that enhances the university’s scholarly profile. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of music education within a liberal arts framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate music courses, which may include music theory, history, composition, performance studies, or ethnomusicology.
- Develop and maintain an active research and/or creative scholarship agenda, resulting in peer-reviewed publications, performances, compositions, or recordings.
- Advise and mentor students, guiding their academic and professional development.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including curriculum development and committee work.
- Contribute to the cultural life of the university and local community through performances, presentations, and outreach.
- Seek and secure external funding opportunities to support research and creative projects.
- Maintain professional affiliations and keep abreast of current trends and developments in music pedagogy and scholarship.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or DMA in Music or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
- A strong record of scholarly publications, creative works, and/or professional performances.
- Expertise in at least two sub-disciplines of music (e.g., music history, theory, performance, composition, ethnomusicology).
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaborations or digital humanities in music.
- Ability to teach applied music lessons in a specific instrument or vocal area.
- Experience in grant writing and securing external research funding.
- Familiarity with innovative pedagogical approaches and technology in music education.
