Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Radio Sound Engineer specializing in Live Broadcasting to join our dynamic team in Downey, CA. This full-time, on-site role is critical to ensuring the highest quality audio production for our live radio programs, podcasts, and digital content. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting broadcast equipment, managing audio levels, and working closely with on-air talent and producers to deliver seamless, engaging broadcasts. This position includes a shift differential for evening, weekend, and holiday work, reflecting the 24/7 nature of live broadcasting. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a wide range of broadcast audio equipment, including mixing consoles, microphones, processors, and recording devices.
  • Monitor and control audio levels for live radio broadcasts, ensuring optimal sound quality and adherence to industry standards.
  • Perform real-time audio mixing, equalization, and effects for on-air talent, interviews, music, and commercials.
  • Conduct pre-broadcast checks and system calibrations to ensure all equipment is fully functional.
  • Quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues during live broadcasts to prevent downtime and maintain continuity.
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, on-air talent, and technical teams to achieve desired broadcast outcomes.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for remote broadcasts and special events as needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports of broadcast operations and equipment status.
  • Adhere to all company policies, FCC regulations, and broadcast standards.
  • Train junior staff or interns on equipment operation and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in operating professional audio mixing consoles (digital and analog).
  • Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and sound engineering principles.
  • Experience with broadcast automation software and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex audio equipment and systems under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to producing high-quality audio.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in live radio broadcasting or a similar live audio production environment.
  • Familiarity with specific broadcast systems used in iHeartMedia (e.g., AudioVault, WideOrbit, Adobe Audition).
  • Certifications in audio engineering or broadcast technology.
  • Portfolio or examples of previous live audio production work.
