Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Backline Technician with a specialized focus on various musical instruments and tour support. This role is crucial for ensuring that our artists and clients have flawlessly functioning equipment for studio sessions, live performances, and extensive tours. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge across guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, drums, and effect pedals, coupled with the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex setups under pressure. This position requires significant travel and a proactive approach to problem-solving in dynamic live event environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive maintenance, repair, and modification of all types of backline equipment, including vintage and modern guitars, bass guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, synthesizers, drum kits, and pedalboards.
  • Prepare, test, and pack equipment for local events and national tours, ensuring all gear meets stringent operational standards.
  • Provide on-site technical support during rehearsals, soundchecks, and live performances, troubleshooting issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Manage inventory, track equipment usage, and coordinate logistics for gear transport and deployment.
  • Work closely with artists, production managers, and other crew members to understand specific technical requirements and provide tailored solutions.
  • Document repairs, modifications, and equipment status accurately.
  • Stay current with advancements in musical instrument technology and repair techniques.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a backline technician or in a similar role within the music or live events industry.
  • Expert-level knowledge of electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, amplifiers, and common effects pedals.
  • Proficiency in basic electronics, soldering, and component-level repair for musical instruments and amplifiers.
  • Strong understanding of MIDI, signal flow, and audio routing principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical problems quickly under high-pressure conditions.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, often on short notice, for tour support.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or formal training in electronics, audio engineering, or musical instrument repair.
  • Experience with drum tuning, maintenance, and electronic drum systems.
  • Familiarity with various keyboard technologies, including synthesizers, samplers, and digital pianos.
  • Previous experience working on national or international tours.
  • Knowledge of specific high-end or boutique gear brands and their unique maintenance requirements.
