Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Nurse Consultant to join our dynamic team, supporting various legal practices from a 100% remote setting. This critical role involves applying your extensive clinical expertise to provide comprehensive medical-legal analysis, interpretation, and consultation for complex cases. You will play a pivotal role in evaluating medical records, identifying key medical issues, and assisting attorneys in understanding the medical aspects of their cases, including personal injury, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation. This position offers the flexibility of working from home, requiring strong self-discipline, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize complex medical records, hospital policies, and other health-related documents.
  • Identify deviations from the standard of care and other contributing factors in medical malpractice cases.
  • Prepare comprehensive medical summaries, chronologies, and timelines for legal teams.
  • Assist attorneys in developing medical theories and strategies for litigation.
  • Educate legal staff and attorneys on medical terminology, procedures, and conditions.
  • Identify and interview potential medical expert witnesses.
  • Conduct medical literature research and synthesize findings relevant to legal cases.
  • Assist with deposition and trial preparation, including preparing exhibits and witness outlines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and professional standards.
  • Manage a caseload effectively, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines in a remote work environment.

Required Skills

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in at least one U.S. state (multi-state licensure a plus).
  • Minimum of 4 years of recent clinical nursing experience in acute care settings (e.g., ICU, ED, Med-Surg).
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex medical records accurately.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, pathophysiology, and healthcare systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate medical information into clear, concise legal summaries.
  • Proficiency in legal research databases and medical literature search tools.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) certification.
  • Prior experience working in a legal environment (law firm, insurance company, or government agency).
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Familiarity with various areas of law, such as personal injury, medical malpractice, or workers' compensation.
