Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Radiochemist with a strong focus on nuclear energy to join our critical operations team. This role is essential for maintaining the safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of our nuclear facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex radiochemical analyses, developing new analytical methods, and ensuring the accurate measurement and management of radioactive materials. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine radiochemical analyses on various samples, including water, air, soil, and waste, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate sophisticated radiochemical instrumentation, such as alpha/beta counters, gamma spectrometers, and liquid scintillation counters.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new analytical procedures for identifying and quantifying radionuclides.
  • Interpret complex analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide expert radiochemistry support during routine operations, plant outages, and emergency response scenarios.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, quality assurance programs, and regulatory requirements (e.g., NRC, EPA).
  • Manage radioactive waste streams, ensuring proper characterization, segregation, and disposal.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for any anomalies or incidents related to radiochemistry.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the ongoing training and development of the laboratory team.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a radiochemical laboratory, preferably within the nuclear energy sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in radiochemical separation techniques and methods for various radionuclides.
  • Proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of radiometric instrumentation (alpha/beta counters, gamma spectrometers).
  • Thorough understanding of radiation safety principles, regulatory compliance, and quality control procedures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for report generation and technical presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience working in a nuclear power plant or a highly regulated nuclear research facility.
  • Familiarity with specific NRC regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Part 20, 10 CFR Part 50).
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Certifications in radiation protection or hazardous material handling.
  • Proven track record of method development and validation.
