Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shopping & Mobility Aide to join our social community support team in Macclesfield. In this vital role, you will provide essential assistance to older adults and individuals with mobility challenges, enabling them to maintain their independence and engage with their local community. Your support will range from accompanying individuals on shopping trips and appointments to facilitating social activities and ensuring safe mobility. This position is perfect for someone who is empathetic, reliable, and passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Accompany individuals on shopping trips, assisting with selections, carrying bags, and managing purchases.
- Provide support for safe mobility, including assisting with walking, using wheelchairs, or navigating public transport.
- Transport individuals to and from appointments, social events, and community activities, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Offer companionship and engage in supportive conversation during outings and activities.
- Assist with light household tasks related to mobility and accessibility as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and any observations relevant to the individual's well-being.
- Adhere to all MHA policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.
- Foster a respectful and trusting relationship with all service users.
Required Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong empathy and patience when working with older adults and individuals with mobility challenges.
- Ability to assist with physical mobility (e.g., pushing wheelchairs, assisting with transfers).
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Basic understanding of health and safety principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle (with business insurance) preferred for some assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a care or support role.
- First Aid certification.
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care.
- Knowledge of the local Macclesfield area.
