Job Description
Embark on a rewarding career as a Trainee Firefighter with the Johns Creek Fire Department. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals passionate about public service and community safety, regardless of prior experience. As a Trainee Firefighter, you will enter our comprehensive Public Sector Academy Training program, designed to equip you with the essential knowledge, skills, and certifications required to become a professional firefighter. You will undergo intensive instruction in fire suppression techniques, emergency medical services, hazardous materials handling, rescue operations, and physical fitness. This role demands commitment, resilience, and a strong desire to learn and serve. Upon successful completion of the academy, you will transition into a full-fledged Firefighter role, ready to protect and serve the Johns Creek community.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and successfully complete all phases of the Public Sector Academy Training program.
- Learn and master fire suppression techniques, including hose line operations, ventilation, search and rescue, and incident command support.
- Train in emergency medical response, including CPR, first aid, and basic life support procedures.
- Understand and apply hazardous materials response protocols.
- Participate in physical fitness training to maintain peak readiness and meet departmental standards.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Develop proficiency in the operation and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development throughout the training period.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Georgia Driver's License and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history and drug screening.
- Ability to pass a rigorous physical agility test and medical examination.
- Strong commitment to public service and community safety.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- No prior firefighting experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field.
- Current EMT-Basic or EMT-Advanced certification.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and problem-solving abilities.
