Job Description
Join the United States Postal Service as a Government Mail Carrier / Postman and become an essential part of connecting communities. This active outdoor role involves delivering and collecting mail on a designated route, often on foot or by vehicle, in all types of weather. You will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, ensuring timely and accurate mail delivery, and maintaining the integrity of the postal system. This is a physically demanding role that requires reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver mail on foot or by vehicle along a prescribed route, ensuring all mail is sorted and delivered accurately.
- Collect outgoing mail from residential and business mailboxes.
- Handle and deliver various types of mail, including letters, packages, and special deliveries.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and collections.
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers, addressing inquiries and concerns.
- Operate postal vehicles safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and postal regulations.
- Sort mail and packages in the post office for delivery.
- Report any unusual incidents or issues encountered during the route.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry mail weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to walk for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Valid state driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and understand postal regulations and procedures.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- United States citizenship or permanent resident alien status.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in a delivery or customer service role.
- Familiarity with the Omaha metropolitan area and its street layout.
