Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented UPS Orthodontic Aide with a Specialist Health focus to join our dynamic orthodontic team in Birmingham, AL. This vital role supports our orthodontists in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining high standards of health and safety within the orthodontic practice. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about helping patients achieve their best smiles and possess a strong commitment to clinical support and administrative efficiency. This position requires active participation in patient education, clinical procedures, and maintaining a sterile environment, all while upholding the values of Ascension St. Vincent’s.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including banding, bonding, and adjustments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and manage inventory of orthodontic supplies.
- Educate patients and their families on proper oral hygiene, appliance care, and post-treatment instructions.
- Take accurate dental impressions, pour models, and assist with digital scanning for treatment planning.
- Maintain patient records, schedule appointments, and manage patient flow efficiently.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols and sterilization guidelines.
- Provide administrative support as needed, including answering phones and processing patient information.
- Collaborate with the orthodontic team to ensure a positive and efficient patient experience.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an Orthodontic Assistant or Dental Assistant
- Proficiency in dental software and electronic health records (EHR)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, instruments, and materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program
- Experience with digital impression systems (e.g., iTero, Trios)
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
