Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Urban Designer / Masterplanner to join our dynamic team in Mesa, Arizona. This role is crucial for developing innovative and sustainable urban solutions that shape communities and enhance quality of life. The ideal candidate will possess strong design skills, an understanding of urban planning principles, and the ability to work collaboratively on diverse projects ranging from large-scale master plans to detailed site designs. Relocation assistance will be provided for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the development of urban design and master planning projects from concept through to implementation.
- Prepare high-quality urban design proposals, including conceptual layouts, illustrative plans, 3D renderings, and detailed design guidelines.
- Conduct site analysis, research, and data gathering to inform design decisions.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including architects, landscape architects, engineers, and environmental specialists.
- Present design concepts and proposals to clients, stakeholders, and public agencies.
- Ensure projects adhere to local zoning regulations, urban planning policies, and sustainability standards.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Urban Design, City Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in urban design or master planning.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), SketchUp, Rhino, and GIS.
- Strong graphic communication and visualization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Demonstrated portfolio of significant urban design and master planning projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable urban development practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional licensure (AICP, PLA, or AIA).
- Experience with public engagement and community outreach processes.
- Familiarity with local zoning ordinances and development review processes in Arizona.
- Experience in complex, mixed-use, and transit-oriented development projects.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
