Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Developmental Music Specialist with an Early Intervention Focus to join our growing team. In this role, you will utilize music-based interventions to support the developmental progress of infants, toddlers, and young children (birth to three years old) who are at risk for developmental delays or have identified special needs. You will work closely with families and a multidisciplinary team to design and implement individualized music therapy plans that enhance cognitive, motor, social-emotional, and communication skills. This position requires a creative, empathetic, and highly collaborative individual committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of children and their families during critical developmental stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify developmental needs and strengths of children (birth to three years) using music-based techniques.
  • Develop and implement individualized music intervention plans tailored to each child's developmental goals.
  • Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions, incorporating a variety of musical experiences (singing, instrument play, movement, rhythm) to promote engagement and learning.
  • Collaborate effectively with parents, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, educators) to integrate music into daily routines and therapy goals.
  • Educate families on the benefits of music in early childhood development and provide strategies for incorporating musical activities into the home environment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress, session notes, and treatment plans in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Advocate for the role of music in early intervention and contribute to program development and evaluation.
  • Ensure a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children.

Required Skills

  • Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) credential or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience working with infants, toddlers, and young children (birth to three years) in an early intervention or pediatric setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development, developmental delays, and evidence-based early intervention practices.
  • Proficiency in various musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, percussion) and vocal skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt music interventions to meet the diverse needs and abilities of children.
  • Compassionate, patient, and creative approach to therapy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Experience with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies.
  • Experience with sensory integration techniques and working with children with sensory processing challenges.
  • Prior experience in a hospital or clinic-based early intervention program.
