Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Field Auditor with a strong focus on DIY knowledge to join our team in Orem, UT. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting on-site audits of our retail locations, ensuring compliance with operational standards, merchandising guidelines, and inventory procedures. A critical aspect of this position is leveraging your practical DIY experience to assess product displays, tool functionality presentations, and the overall customer experience from a home improvement enthusiast’s perspective. You will identify areas for improvement, report findings, and collaborate with store management to implement corrective actions, ultimately enhancing store performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular, comprehensive audits of assigned Home Depot stores to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and merchandising standards.
  • Evaluate store layouts, product displays, signage, and promotional materials for accuracy, effectiveness, and customer appeal, with a specific focus on DIY project areas.
  • Verify inventory accuracy, stock levels, and proper product placement, identifying discrepancies and potential shrink risks.
  • Assess the condition and availability of tools, equipment, and rental items, ensuring they meet operational readiness and safety standards.
  • Observe and evaluate customer service interactions, particularly regarding assistance with DIY projects and product selection.
  • Identify and report operational deficiencies, safety hazards, and compliance issues to store management and regional leadership.
  • Collaborate with store teams to develop and implement action plans for addressing audit findings and driving continuous improvement.
  • Document audit results thoroughly and accurately using company systems and provide constructive feedback.
  • Stay informed about current retail trends, DIY product innovations, and competitor activities to inform audit practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven practical experience and strong knowledge in various DIY home improvement projects (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, gardening).
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field-based role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel regularly within a designated geographic area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in retail auditing, quality control, or loss prevention.
  • Familiarity with Home Depot's operational procedures and product categories.
  • Experience using mobile auditing applications or software.
