Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Virtual Tax Return Reviewer to join our Public Sector team. This is a crucial role where you will be responsible for meticulously reviewing and verifying tax returns for public sector clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance with relevant tax laws, and adherence to internal standards. This position is 100% remote, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while contributing to critical public services. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our tax service offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough reviews of tax returns (e.g., 1040, 1120, 1065, 990) prepared for public sector entities and their stakeholders.
- Verify accuracy of calculations, data entry, and adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Identify potential discrepancies, errors, or areas for optimization and provide constructive feedback to preparers.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is included and properly organized.
- Stay current with changes in tax law, regulations, and reporting requirements relevant to the public sector.
- Collaborate with tax preparers and other team members to resolve complex tax issues.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of tax review processes and procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax preparation and review, preferably with public sector exposure.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software (e.g., UltraTax CS, GoSystem Tax RS, CCH ProSystem fx Tax).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage time effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification.
- Experience with governmental or non-profit tax compliance.
- Advanced degree in Taxation or Accounting.
