Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Think Tank Liaison to join our Corporate and Government Affairs team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with leading think tanks, academic institutions, and policy research organizations globally. You will serve as a key bridge between Google’s internal teams and external policy experts, facilitating dialogue, sharing insights, and ensuring our policy positions are well-informed and effectively communicated. This role requires a deep understanding of public policy, technology trends, and a proven ability to engage with complex stakeholders to advance our corporate and government relations objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with key personnel at influential think tanks and policy research organizations.
- Monitor and analyze relevant policy research, reports, and white papers from think tanks, synthesizing key findings for internal stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and joint events with think tanks to foster collaboration and thought leadership.
- Represent Google at external policy forums, conferences, and roundtables, articulating our positions and gathering intelligence.
- Collaborate with internal policy, legal, communications, and product teams to ensure alignment on research initiatives and policy advocacy.
- Develop strategic engagement plans for priority think tanks, identifying opportunities for joint research, publications, and public discourse.
- Track and report on the impact of think tank engagements on Google's policy and reputation goals.
- Advise internal teams on emerging policy debates and the intellectual landscape surrounding technology and its societal implications.
- Prepare briefing materials and presentations for senior leadership on think tank activities and policy trends.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Law, Economics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in public policy, government affairs, strategic communications, or think tank relations.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex policy issues clearly and concisely.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information from various sources.
- Demonstrated understanding of the technology industry and its policy landscape.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Experience working directly for or extensively with a think tank or policy research institution.
- Familiarity with global policy issues related to AI, data privacy, competition, and content moderation.
- Strong network within the policy and think tank community.
- Project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
