Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated State Geological Survey Assistant with a focus on Government Benefits to join our team in Temecula, CA. This unique role combines foundational geological survey support with crucial administrative tasks related to state-administered government benefits and public information programs. The assistant will play a key role in ensuring accurate geological data supports fair and efficient benefit distribution and public understanding of land-related policies. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in geology, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist geologists and other staff in field investigations, data collection, and sample processing.
- Manage and organize geological data, maps, and reports using databases and GIS software.
- Prepare preliminary geological reports, maps, and presentations under supervision.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding geological information, state land-use policies, and government benefit programs related to environmental and geological concerns.
- Support the administration of state programs and benefits requiring geological assessments or data, including processing applications and maintaining records.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks, including sample preparation and analysis.
- Maintain geological equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness for field and office work.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate information exchange and project completion.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of geological principles and concepts.
- Proficiency in data entry, organization, and record keeping.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Valid California Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software.
- Prior experience in a government or public sector setting.
- Familiarity with California's geological features and environmental regulations.
