Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in extensive on-the-job training programs to learn sewer and drain maintenance techniques.

  • Operate various hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
  • Learn to identify common issues such as blockages, cracks, and structural damage in the sewer system.

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment inspections.
  • Respond to emergency calls related to sewer backups or drainage issues as part of a team.
  • Perform general labor duties as assigned to support public works operations.

Required Skills

  • Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding manual labor, including lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
  • Commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing or utility systems.
  • Previous experience in a labor-intensive role.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit or license.
