Job Description
Join the City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks as a Sewer & Drain Maintenance Trainee! Key Responsibilities
- Participate in extensive on-the-job training programs to learn sewer and drain maintenance techniques.
- Assist experienced technicians in inspecting, cleaning, and repairing sewer lines, catch basins, and storm drains.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
- Learn to identify common issues such as blockages, cracks, and structural damage in the sewer system.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment inspections.
- Respond to emergency calls related to sewer backups or drainage issues as part of a team.
- Perform general labor duties as assigned to support public works operations.
Required Skills
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Physical ability to perform demanding manual labor, including lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
- Commitment to safety and teamwork.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of plumbing or utility systems.
- Previous experience in a labor-intensive role.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit or license.
