Job Description
Join the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as a Night Shift Public Transit Bus Cleaner and play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of our bus fleet. You will be responsible for ensuring our buses are spotless and ready for service each morning, contributing directly to the comfort and safety of our passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of bus interiors, including floors, seats, windows, and driver's areas.
- Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as stanchions, handrails, and seatbacks using approved cleaning solutions.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms on applicable bus models.
- Remove graffiti and other defacements from bus interiors and exteriors.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and pressure washers safely and efficiently.
- Report any damage, maintenance needs, or safety hazards observed during cleaning to the appropriate supervisor.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and the proper use of cleaning chemicals.
- Reliable and punctual attendance is essential for the night shift schedule.
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions and warning labels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in custodial or commercial cleaning roles.
- Experience operating industrial cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of public transit operations or similar large-scale facility maintenance.
