Job Description
As an Overnight Care Aide at Chartwell Retirement Residences in Markham, you will be a vital part of our compassionate care team. This sleep-over shift position offers premium night rates and focuses on ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our residents during the evening and early morning hours. You will provide essential personal care support, conduct regular resident checks, respond to emergent needs, and maintain a peaceful and secure environment. Your dedication and vigilance during the night are crucial to our residents’ peace of mind and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care services to residents during overnight hours, including assisting with toileting, repositioning, and other activities of daily living as needed.
- Conduct regular rounds to ensure resident safety, security, and comfort, responding promptly to call bells and emergencies.
- Document observations, care provided, and any changes in resident condition accurately and thoroughly in accordance with facility policies.
- Assist residents with transfers and mobility as required, utilizing proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
- Perform light housekeeping duties in resident rooms and common areas to maintain a clean and tidy environment.
- Administer medication reminders as per care plans and facility protocols.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with residents, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, safety regulations, and infection control protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to care for seniors.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong observational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication purposes.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Personal Support Worker (PSW), Health Care Aide (HCA), or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a long-term care, assisted living, home care, or hospital setting, especially with overnight shifts.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Fluency in multiple languages relevant to the diverse community in Markham (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi).
