Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Facility Porter to join our team in St Helens. This crucial role involves safely transporting patients, equipment, and supplies throughout our mental health facility, ensuring a calm and respectful approach at all times. You will be a vital part of our support services, contributing to a safe and therapeutic environment for our service users. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to maintain composure in challenging situations, prioritizing safety and well-being above all else.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, who may be experiencing various mental health conditions, between wards, departments, and treatment areas using appropriate methods (e.g., wheelchairs, beds).
  • Assist with the safe and timely movement of medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and mail.
  • Respond promptly to requests from clinical staff, prioritizing urgent tasks effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of all transport equipment, reporting any faults immediately.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and with empathy with patients, visitors, and staff, demonstrating a calm and reassuring presence.
  • Provide clear and concise handovers as required.
  • Assist with the management of waste and linen as per facility guidelines.
