Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician for a specialized clinical role within our Downtown Denver facility. In this critical position, you will play a vital role in preparing sterile compounded medications and supporting the efficient operation of our home infusion pharmacy services. This role requires a strong understanding of sterile compounding techniques, adherence to strict regulatory guidelines, and a commitment to patient safety and quality care. You will collaborate closely with pharmacists and nursing staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of life-sustaining medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile compounded intravenous admixtures and other parenteral medications accurately and efficiently according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Adhere strictly to USP <797> and <800> guidelines for sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling, maintaining aseptic technique at all times.
  • Maintain and organize pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications and supplies.
  • Assist pharmacists in verifying medication orders, performing calculations, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and delivery of medications and equipment to patients' homes, ensuring proper storage and handling during transit.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the sterile compounding area, laminar flow hoods, and other pharmacy equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records, medication logs, and compounding documentation.
  • Assist with patient education under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, providing instructions on medication use and storage.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

Required Skills

  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through PTCB or NHA.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure in the state of Colorado.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile compounding/IV admixture preparation, preferably in a home infusion, hospital, or specialty pharmacy setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of USP <797> and <800> requirements and aseptic technique.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of medication preparation and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and basic office software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related scientific or healthcare field.
  • Previous experience with home infusion specific pharmacy software (e.g., CPR+, Torq, McKesson Paragon).
  • Experience handling and preparing hazardous medications.
  • Advanced training or certifications in sterile compounding.
  • Valid driver's license for potential occasional delivery coordination.
