Job Description
Join the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County as an After-School Music Program Leader! We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to inspire creativity and a love for music in children and teens. This is a fantastic opportunity in a fun, supportive environment, perfect for college students, aspiring educators, or anyone passionate about youth development and music. You will be instrumental in developing and leading engaging music activities, fostering a positive learning atmosphere, and helping our members discover their musical talents.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement diverse music activities and lessons for various age groups (ages 6-18).
- Teach basic musical concepts, rhythm, and introductory instrument skills (e.g., ukulele, percussion, keyboard).
- Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all program participants.
- Supervise members during program hours, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of program space and materials.
- Collaborate with other staff members to integrate music into broader after-school programming.
- Communicate effectively with members, parents, and staff regarding program activities and member progress.
- Maintain equipment and resources related to the music program, ensuring proper care and inventory.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for music and working with children/teens.
- Basic knowledge of musical instruments and theory.
- Ability to lead and engage groups of children in a dynamic setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience playing a musical instrument (e.g., guitar, keyboard, drums).
- Previous experience working in youth programs, camps, or educational settings.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Enrollment in or completion of a music, education, or related program.
- Knowledge of various music genres and cultural music traditions.
