Job Description
Join our dedicated team as an A&E Emergency Porter, vital to the smooth and efficient operation of our fast-paced Accident & Emergency department during night shifts. This demanding yet rewarding role involves transporting patients, equipment, and sensitive items with urgency and care, ensuring critical support for medical staff and comfort for patients. You will be an integral part of our emergency response, working in a dynamic environment where every minute counts. We offer a night shift premium to recognize your crucial contribution during these essential hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely and efficiently between wards, departments, and critical care areas, including the A&E department.
- Move medical equipment, samples, and supplies promptly as required by medical and nursing staff.
- Assist with the safe transfer of deceased patients from wards to the mortuary, maintaining dignity and respect.
- Ensure the cleanliness and readiness of trolleys, wheelchairs, and other transport equipment.
- Respond quickly and calmly to emergency calls and critical situations within the A&E department.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and infection control procedures.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift/push heavy loads.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for night shifts.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
- Basic understanding of health and safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
- Experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
- First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures.
