Job Description
Are you a 14-year-old eager to develop leadership skills, gain valuable work experience, and make a difference in your community? The YMCA of Boulder Valley is looking for enthusiastic and responsible teens to join our Summer Camp team as a Camp Counselor Trainee with a special focus on leadership development. This is a unique opportunity to learn the ropes of camp counseling, mentor younger children, and cultivate essential leadership qualities in a supportive and fun environment. Under the guidance of experienced staff, you will assist with daily camp activities, ensure the safety and engagement of campers, and contribute to creating an unforgettable summer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior camp counselors in supervising groups of children during various camp activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and outdoor adventures.
- Act as a positive role model for younger campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and respect.
- Support the implementation of daily camp schedules and ensure smooth transitions between activities.
- Help organize and lead age-appropriate games and activities under supervision.
- Learn and practice effective communication and group management techniques.
- Participate actively in all leadership training sessions and team meetings.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up activity areas and camp facilities.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive camp environment for all participants.
- Adhere to all YMCA policies and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Must be 14 years old by the start of the camp session.
- Demonstrated interest in working with children and youth.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Eagerness to learn and develop leadership skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a camp participant, volunteer, or in a similar group setting.
- Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated leadership potential through school activities, sports, or clubs.
