Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Laboratory Director to lead our clinical laboratory operations in New Port Richey, FL. This high-impact role requires a visionary leader with a strong background in healthcare and clinical laboratory management, dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and patient safety. The Laboratory Director will oversee all technical and administrative aspects of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and fostering a collaborative environment for our team of skilled professionals. This is a critical leadership position for an individual passionate about advancing diagnostic excellence and contributing to superior patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all clinical laboratory services, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood bank, and immunology.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission) and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor laboratory policies, procedures, and quality control programs to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Manage laboratory budget, resources, and staffing to optimize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, and hospital leadership to integrate laboratory services effectively into patient care pathways.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and instrumentation to enhance diagnostic capabilities and service offerings.
  • Oversee instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives, including proficiency testing, internal audits, and corrective action planning.
  • Participate in hospital leadership meetings and contribute to overall organizational strategic planning.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., D.O.) in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by ASCP or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of CLIA, CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and financial operations.
  • Proven experience in quality assurance, quality control, and laboratory accreditation processes.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Published research or presentations in laboratory medicine.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) implementation and optimization.
