Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Petrochemical Lab Tech with a strong focus on chemical testing to join our team in Gary, Indiana. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals eager to start a career in the petrochemical industry, offering hands-on experience in a dynamic laboratory environment. You will be responsible for conducting routine chemical analyses, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety and quality standards. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to accuracy, and a willingness to learn and grow within a world-class organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine chemical and physical tests on petrochemical products, crude oil, and intermediates using established ASTM and in-house methods.
- Prepare samples for analysis, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposal.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate various laboratory equipment, including but not limited to gas chromatographs (GC), spectrometers, and titrators.
- Accurately record, interpret, and report test results in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, quality assurance procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Identify and troubleshoot basic instrument malfunctions, escalating complex issues to senior technicians.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate effectively with senior lab technicians, engineers, and production personnel.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of chemistry principles and laboratory practices.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory safety procedures.
- Proficiency in data entry and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the petrochemical or chemical industry (internships count).
- Knowledge of analytical techniques such as chromatography (GC/HPLC) or spectroscopy (FTIR/UV-Vis).
- Understanding of quality control systems and ISO standards.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
