Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and exceptionally precise Freelance Legal Typist to join our remote team. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of legal terminology and formatting, and the ability to transcribe legal documents with speed and accuracy. Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe a variety of legal documents, including depositions, hearings, pleadings, correspondence, and contracts, with extreme accuracy.
- Proofread and edit typed documents to ensure grammatical correctness, proper punctuation, and adherence to legal formatting standards.
- Manage and prioritize workload to meet strict deadlines and turnaround times.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all legal and client information.
- Utilize transcription equipment and software proficiently.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and other team members regarding project status and any potential issues.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal typist or legal transcriber.
- Exceptional typing speed and accuracy (minimum 80 WPM with high accuracy).
- In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and document formats.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook) and transcription software.
- Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet home office environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assisting, or a related field.
- Experience with various legal practice areas (e.g., litigation, corporate, real estate).
- Familiarity with digital dictation platforms and cloud-based collaboration tools.
- Prior experience working in a freelance or remote capacity for a legal services provider.
