Job Description
Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and eager to kick-start your career in public works? United Utilities is seeking a motivated Wastewater Management Intern to join our dedicated Public Works team in Chester. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the critical field of wastewater treatment and infrastructure management. You will contribute to projects that ensure public health and environmental protection, working alongside experienced professionals and making a tangible impact on the community. Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineers and technicians in the daily operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
- Conduct field inspections and data collection at various sites, including pumping stations and network assets.
- Support the monitoring and analysis of wastewater quality parameters.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs.
- Participate in project planning and execution related to network upgrades and process improvements.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation under supervision.
- Learn and adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes and water quality principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid UK driving license preferred, or willingness to travel to various sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in a related field.
- Familiarity with GIS software or data analysis tools.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards (e.g., WFD, EA).
