Job Description

United Utilities is seeking a motivated Wastewater Management Intern to join our dedicated Public Works team in Chester. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the critical field of wastewater treatment and infrastructure management. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and technicians in the daily operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Conduct field inspections and data collection at various sites, including pumping stations and network assets.
  • Support the monitoring and analysis of wastewater quality parameters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs.
  • Participate in project planning and execution related to network upgrades and process improvements.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation under supervision.
  • Learn and adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes and water quality principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid UK driving license preferred, or willingness to travel to various sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in a related field.
  • Familiarity with GIS software or data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards (e.g., WFD, EA).
