Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Haul Specialist to join our team in Greensboro, NC, focusing on the safe and efficient transport of oversize and overweight loads. This critical role involves navigating complex logistics, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, and meticulously planning routes to accommodate specialized cargo. Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy haul equipment for the transport of oversize and overweight freight.
- Plan and execute routes, considering bridge clearances, road restrictions, permits, and escorts.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured, balanced, and comply with safety regulations.
- Complete necessary permits and documentation for oversize loads, adhering to state and federal guidelines.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and escort personnel regarding load status and potential issues.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving activities, cargo, and equipment maintenance.
- Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-road issues related to equipment or cargo.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety programs.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of commercial driving experience with at least 3 years in heavy haul/oversize load transport.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to oversize/overweight loads.
- Proven ability to plan routes, secure loads, and operate specialized hauling equipment.
- Excellent driving record with no major violations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in completing required documentation and logs accurately.
- Physical ability to perform duties associated with heavy hauling, including lifting, bending, and securing loads.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific types of specialized equipment (e.g., multi-axle trailers, lowboys, extendable trailers).
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems.
- Certifications in hazardous materials (HAZMAT) or tanker endorsements.
- Experience with international border crossings and customs procedures (if applicable to specific routes).
