Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Forklift Yard Driver to join our team in Huntsville, AL. This vital role involves operating forklifts to move trailers and materials within our busy yard, requiring comfort with outdoor work in various weather conditions. We provide all necessary weather gear to ensure your comfort and safety. As a Yard Driver, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the flow of operations, ensuring trailers are positioned correctly for loading and unloading, and supporting overall logistical efficiency. This position requires strong attention to safety protocols and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to move trailers, containers, and materials within the yard.
- Perform pre-shift inspections of forklifts and other equipment, reporting any maintenance issues immediately.
- Ensure accurate positioning of trailers at docks for loading and unloading operations.
- Monitor yard inventory and organization to maintain operational efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, dock workers, and other team members.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including traffic and pedestrian rules.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) with provided weather-appropriate gear.
- Assist with general yard duties and housekeeping as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures for yard operations.
- Excellent spatial awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a logistics, warehouse, or transportation yard environment.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one quickly.
- Experience with different types of forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up).
