Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Center Porter to join our team at Spire Nottingham Hospital. As a crucial part of our operational support, you will ensure the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and vital supplies throughout our state-of-the-art facility. This role requires a compassionate individual with excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work discreetly and efficiently within a fast-paced healthcare environment. Your contribution will directly impact patient experience and the smooth functioning of our clinical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and courteously transport patients between wards, departments, and consultation rooms using wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds.
- Move medical equipment, laboratory samples, patient notes, and supplies across the hospital site as required.
- Assist clinical staff with patient transfers and positioning when necessary.
- Ensure all transport equipment is clean, well-maintained, and ready for use, reporting any defects promptly.
- Deliver and collect internal mail, parcels, and clinical waste following strict guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment, adhering to infection control policies.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to requests from healthcare professionals and administrative staff.
- Provide a professional and empathetic presence, offering comfort and reassurance to patients during transport.
Required Skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to perform frequent walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures in a healthcare setting.
- A professional and tidy appearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering, customer service, or healthcare support role.
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Basic IT literacy.
- Familiarity with hospital layouts and procedures.
