Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate paratransit vehicles, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to passengers, including those with disabilities, ensuring safe boarding, alighting, and securement of wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
- Follow assigned routes and schedules, adapting to real-time changes as necessary while maintaining punctuality.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment within the vehicle for all passengers.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, passengers, and other team members, providing updates on route status or potential delays.
- Complete necessary paperwork and electronic logs accurately and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and emergency procedures to ensure the well-being of passengers and self.
Required Skills
- Valid Illinois Driver's License with a clean driving record (CDL not initially required, but willingness to obtain is a plus).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist passengers with mobility devices.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and physical examination.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service or care-giving role.
- Familiarity with the Evanston and surrounding Chicago suburban areas.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
