Job Description
As a Water Resources Engineering Intern, you will be an integral part of our dynamic team, contributing to critical projects focused on sustainable water supply and environmental protection. This hands-on role offers a unique opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges, working alongside experienced engineers on initiatives ranging from hydraulic modelling and data analysis to drought management and environmental impact assessments. You will gain invaluable experience in the utilities sector, supporting our mission to provide clean water and manage wastewater effectively for our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of hydrological and water quality data.
- Support the development and calibration of hydraulic models for water distribution networks and river systems.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and project documentation for various water resource initiatives.
- Participate in site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing infrastructure.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on projects related to water supply planning, demand forecasting, and abstraction management.
- Conduct research on emerging water resource technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices in the industry.
- Aid in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and internal company standards.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data management and analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
- Ability to work both independently and as a valued member of a project team.
- Basic understanding of water resources engineering principles and concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data analysis.
- Prior coursework or experience with hydraulic modelling software (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, EPANET).
- Understanding of UK water regulations and environmental policies.
- Demonstrated interest in the water utility sector and environmental sustainability.
