Job Description
Join IBM’s pioneering AI Ethics team as an Intern with a focus on Social Science & Research. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the critical work of ensuring AI technologies are developed and deployed responsibly and ethically. You will engage in research, analysis, and development of frameworks grounded in social science principles to guide our AI products and policies. This role is ideal for students passionate about the intersection of technology, ethics, and societal impact, eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world, industry setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize research findings on AI ethics, fairness, accountability, and transparency from social science perspectives.
- Assist in the development of ethical AI frameworks, guidelines, and best practices.
- Support the team in analyzing societal impacts of AI technologies and identifying potential ethical risks.
- Contribute to internal research projects focused on understanding user perceptions, trust, and adoption of AI systems.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation summarizing research and analysis for various stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including AI researchers, engineers, product managers, and legal experts.
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and educational initiatives related to AI ethics.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Social Sciences (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Political Science), Ethics, Philosophy, Law, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to critically evaluate information and draw insightful conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in AI ethics, responsible technology, and their societal implications.
- Proficiency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, NVivo).
- Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning concepts and applications.
- Previous experience in academic research or project-based work related to technology ethics.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
