Job Description
Join The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University as a Paleontology Tour Guide and lead unforgettable educational experiences at a designated National Monument. This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about prehistoric life and natural history to inspire visitors of all ages. You will be responsible for interpreting paleontological discoveries, geological formations, and the rich history of the monument, bringing science to life for diverse audiences. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and informative guided tours for individuals and groups of all ages, focusing on paleontology, geology, and the natural history of the National Monument.
- Develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and interpretive presentations tailored to various audiences.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants during excursions on monument grounds.
- Assist in the development of interpretive materials, including brochures, exhibits, and educational resources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current paleontological research and discoveries relevant to the monument.
- Contribute to the preservation and protection of the monument's natural and cultural resources.
- Provide exceptional customer service, answering visitor questions and enhancing their overall experience.
- Collaborate with monument staff and Academy colleagues to ensure seamless operation of tour programs.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for paleontology, geology, or natural history.
- Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor, dynamic environment.
- Physical stamina to lead extended tours, often involving walking and standing on varied terrain.
- Commitment to environmental stewardship and visitor safety.
- Ability to adapt tours and presentations to different group sizes and knowledge levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience in guiding tours, interpretation, or environmental education.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
- Familiarity with National Park Service interpretive guidelines.
