Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Metallurgical Chemist to join our dynamic team in Sugar Land, TX. This role is central to our mining and metal services division, focusing on analytical testing, material characterization, and process optimization. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex chemical analyses of various metallic materials, ores, and concentrates, providing critical data to our clients in the mining and metallurgical industries. This position requires a strong background in analytical chemistry, metallurgy, and experience with a range of laboratory instrumentation. Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and precise chemical analysis of metallic samples, ores, and metallurgical products using a variety of analytical techniques.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced laboratory equipment including ICP-OES, AAS, XRF, and wet chemistry apparatus.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods and procedures to meet client and industry requirements.
- Interpret analytical data, prepare comprehensive technical reports, and provide expert recommendations to clients.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, quality management systems (e.g., ISO 17025), and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with metallurgists, engineers, and other scientists on research and development projects.
- Maintain detailed records of all analytical work, calibration data, and quality control checks.
- Train and mentor junior laboratory personnel on analytical techniques and safety procedures.
- Stay abreast of new technologies and trends in metallurgical chemistry and analytical sciences.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Metallurgical Chemist or similar role in a mining, metals, or analytical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining ICP-OES, AAS, and XRF instrumentation.
- Strong knowledge of wet chemistry techniques for metal analysis.
- Expertise in sample preparation techniques for various metallurgical materials.
- Thorough understanding of quality control principles and laboratory best practices (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and technical report writing skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Solid understanding of metallurgical processes and material properties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- Experience with specialized techniques such as SEM-EDS, XRD, or LECO analysis.
- Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and validate new analytical methods.
